The long-term goal of the Pagliarini laboratory is to help define the biochemical underpinnings of metabolic disorders involving mitochondrial dysfunction. In particular, we blend classic biochemistry, molecular & cellular biology and bioenergetics with large-scale proteomics and systems approaches to establish the role of post-translational modifications in regulating mitochondrial metabolism, to elucidate the mechanisms that cells use to remodel mitochondria in response to external stress, and to systematically define the biochemical functions of orphan mitochondrial proteins.
