Our laboratory takes a systems approach to designing new proteins, understanding mechanism of protein function and evolution. We design protein-based small molecule biosensors to engineer microbes to biosynthesize valuable chemicals or bioremediate toxic chemicals. We combine state-of-the-art computational protein design (Rosetta) with high-throughput experimental phenotyping methods to addresses these questions.
